(五)shall的广泛使用来替代will和 should，以加强语气和强制力。在外贸法规英语中，shall一词具有特殊的意思，它常被用来表示各项具体的规定和要求，指示性和强制性特别明显。因为它含有“承担责任和义务”的意义，用它可以充分体现出法规文件的权威性和具有的约束力。在这方面，它不是一般意义上的用法， 在主要用作情态动词，表示“应”，指其具有必须这么做的法律义务，它与should “应该”有着明显的区别。

In all circumstances，the carrier and the ship shall be discharged from all liabilities in respect of loss or damage unless suit is brought within one year after delivery of the goods or the date when the goods should have been delivered.

(六)or的普遍使用。在外贸法规文件中，为了使文件条款行文严谨，尽量无漏洞，这时or就被广泛的使用，有时甚至是滥用。其目的也是使条文完整，全面，尽可能包括可能出现的情况，一旦真的情况发生，解释起来也有较大的余地。但是，由于or用的次数太多，常给有关人员带来理解上的麻烦。

The value of the goods shall be determined on the basis of the market value at the port of destination on the day of the ship’s arrival，or，in case of nonarrival，or，at the carrier’s option，on the basis of the market value of the goods at the port of loading on the day of departure plus other charges concerned .The duties and expenses saved shall be deducted from the indemnity for loss of ，or damage to the goods.

(七)为了避免诉讼时双方当事人钻词义间的细微差别大做文章，多用成双成对的同义词。

(八)长词用得较多。在外贸法规英语文件中，含字母较多的长词比比皆是，从使用情况分析，长词的使用远远多于一般文体，这样用的目的也是为了突出文件的严肃性和正规性。
