30. enormous, gigantic, immense, tremendous

enormous ，gigantic ，immense ，tremendos 这组都有 “巨大的、很大的”之意。

enormous ：“巨大的、大量的”，指大小或程度超过惯常的范围或标准，有极度、异常、超出比例或过分巨大的意思。

NO sooner had he gone abroad than he discovered there was an enormous difference between the two countries in life style. 初到异乡，他发现在生活方式上两国间有巨大的差异。

gigantic：“巨人般的、巨大的” 多用它的比喻、引申意义，如：a gigantic leap 飞跃，a gigantic net 巨大的网络。

The new gigantic building located in the centre of the city looks magnificent. 坐落在市中心的新建的巨大的楼宇看上去富丽堂皇。

immense：“极大的、广大的”，指大小远远超出一般标准或习惯概念，非一般衡量单位或标准所能测量的，如海洋或天空等，也指抽象事物。

Whenever the National Day approaches，the immense Tian An Men square becomes a sea of flowers and happy faces.每当国庆节来临之际，宏伟的天安门广场就变成了一片鲜花和笑脸海洋。

tremendous：“巨大的、非常的”，指规模、体积、程度大得惊人，不同寻常。

The problem is how to utilize the tremendous power which the earth receives from the sun every day. 问题是如何利用地球每天从太阳接受到的巨大能量。
