女士们，先生们：

Ladies and gentlemen,

晚上好！今年是2011年的第一天，也是中巴两国共庆建交60周年暨“中巴友好年”的第一天。在这个具有特殊意义的夜晚，很高兴与大家欢聚在新时期中巴友谊的新象征——巴中友谊中心，共同启动“中巴友好年”并共同迎接新一年的到来！首先，我要感谢扎尔达里总统、吉拉尼总理为“中巴友好年”启动仪式发来的热情洋溢的贺电，感谢各界朋友们光临今晚的招待会。

Good evening! First of all, I would like to thank H.E. Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan and H. E. Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Prime Minister of Pakistan, for their encouraging and inspiring congratulatory letters on the occasion of commencement of the "China-Pakistan Friendship Year". I would also like to thank all of you for being with us tonight. Today is of special significance. It is the first day of the year 2011. It is also the first day of the "China-Pakistan Friendship Year" where we will jointly celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. On this fantastic occasion, I am more than pleased to launch the "China-Pakistan Friendship Year" and greet the year 2011 together with all of you at the newly inaugurated Pakistan-China Friendship Center which symbolizes our all-weather friendship in the new era.

在刚刚过去的一年里，中巴战略合作伙伴关系又取得了长足发展，呈现出旺盛的生机与活力。正如刚才我们从屏幕上看到的，温家宝总理不久前对巴基斯坦进行了成功的历史性访问，与巴基斯坦领导人和各界人士进行了广泛接触。双方就进一步巩固和深化中巴全天候战略合作伙伴关系达成广泛共识。中巴发表了《联合声明》，宣布建立两国领导人年度会晤机制和外长对话机制。两国政府签署了涉及经济技术、能源、金融、文化等领域十多项合作文件。温总理宣布了中方参与巴灾后重建一揽子计划及援助新举措。两国企业界还签订了超过100亿美元的20项商业合同，展现了双方经贸合作的巨大潜力。访问取得了丰硕成果，对进一步巩固和深化中巴传统友好和务实合作具有重要意义。

The year 2010 just passed witnessed a continued stable and vigorous growth of the China-Pakistan strategic partnership of cooperation. Recently, as the screen showed, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao paid a successful and historic official visit to Pakistan. The premier made broad contact with Pakistan leadership as well as people from all circles. The two sides reached broad consensus on further consolidating and deepening the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. We signed the China-Pakistan Joint Statement and announced the establishment of the leaders' annual meeting mechanism and the foreign ministers' dialogue mechanism. The two governments signed over 10 cooperation documents covering economy, technology, energy, finance, culture and other fields. Premier Wen Jiabao announced a package of plans for China's involvement in Pakistan's reconstruction efforts and China's new assistance initiatives. The business of our two countries signed 20 commercial contracts valued at more than $10 billion showcasing the huge potential for bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Chinese premier Wen Jiabao's productive and successful visit is of great significance to further consolidating and deepening the traditional friendship and pragmatic cooperation between our two countries.

我要特别提及的是，巴基斯坦政府和人民以极大的热情欢迎温总理来访，巴各界人士广泛参与，展现了巴人民对中国人民兄弟般的友好情谊，给代表团和中国人民留下深刻印象。借此机会，我愿向所有参与这一历史性访问的接待工作、在台前幕后辛勤工作的中巴双方人员表示衷心感谢，向长期以来致力于中巴友好的各界朋友们致以崇高敬意！

I would like to point out that the Pakistan government and people welcomed Premier Wen Jiabao with great warmth and enthusiasm. The extensive involvement of the Pakistan people from all walks of life is a vivid depiction of the brotherly friendship that they have towards the Chinese people. It impressed the Premier's entourage and all the Chinese. I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the people of our two countries who have been engaged, either directly or indirectly, in the preparation and reception work of this historic visit. I would also like to extend our highly appreciation to all the friends who have always been dedicated to the China-Pakistan friendship.

女士们，先生们，

Ladies and gentlemen,

中巴建交近60年来，两国建立了全天候友谊，发展了全方位合作。尽管国际风云变幻，中巴关系却历久弥新，坚如磐石。这主要得益于两国之间始终相互尊重、高度互信、真诚互助。中巴两国人民多次共同谱写了同舟共济、共克时艰的感人篇章。中国人民永远不会忘记，2008年中国汶川大地震发生后，巴基斯坦拿出全部储备帐篷，第一时间向中方提供紧急援助。同样，在去年巴基斯坦遭受特大洪灾的危难时刻，中国政府和人民感同身受，以前所未有的力度帮助巴抗洪救灾。正如温总理在巴议会演讲中所言，中巴友谊已深深扎根于两国人民心中，融入了我们的血脉，成为一种崇高而坚定的信念。“远亲不如近邻”，中巴永远要做好邻居、好朋友、好兄弟、好伙伴！

Over the past 60 years since we established diplomatic relations, our two countries have developed an all-weather friendship and conducted multi-dimensional cooperation. In the face of a volatile international situation, the China-Pakistan friendship remains as strong and solid as a rock standing firm despite the passage of time. This is only because we always respect each other, highly trust each other, and wholeheartedly help each other. The two peoples, sharing weal and woe, have made passage together in hard times and written a number of touching chapters in our history. In 2008, when a massive earthquake struck China's Wenchuan, Pakistan gave all its tents in reserve and provided swift emergency assistance to us. The Chinese people will never forget it. Last year, when Pakistan was hit by the catastrophic floods, the Chinese government and people felt as much pain as our Pakistan brothers did and offered timely, sincere, unconditional help to Pakistan in an unprecedented manner. As Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao elaborated in his speech at the Pakistan parliament during his recent visit, the China-Pakistan friendship has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. It is in our blood, and has become our noble and firm conviction. A close neighbor means more than a distant relative. China and Pakistan will always be good neighbors, close friends, trusted partners and dear brothers.

今年是中巴建交60周年。温总理访巴期间，与吉拉尼总理共同宣布2011年为“中巴友好年”。根据两国领导人所达成的共识，今年双方将在政治、经济、文化、教育、体育、军事等领域共同举办一系列丰富多彩的纪念和庆祝活动。我们相信，“中巴友好年”活动一定能进一步增进两国人民之间的相互了解和友好感情，将中巴战略合作伙伴关系推向新的高度。衷心希望在座的各位朋友能一如既往地关心和支持中巴友好，积极参与“中巴友好年”各项活动，为促进两国传统友好与务实合作再添新贡献。

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan.
