Dumpling contamination in China unlikely

Chinese officials say the dumplings at the centre of a food poisoning in Japan were unlikely to have been contaminated in China.The quality inspection agency in Hebei Province where the dumplings were made briefed reporters Friday on the investigation.

In December and January, Japan reported 10 people falling ill after eating the frozen meat dumplings.

China and Japan are working together to solve the food poisoning mystery. A provincial quality official in Hebei says investigation has just about ruled out problems in production and transportation.

Cheng Fang, Director of Heibei Province Quality Inspection Agency, said, "So far, no abnormality has been found in processing, transportation and customs checking process involved in the food poisoning case."Di Menglu, Diretor of Tianyang Food Company, said, "The plant is very clean and well-managed. The company enjoys a high reputation. No pesticide was found in the plant."
