An international conference is getting underway shortly in Paris aims at boosting efforts to end the conflict in the Sudanese region of Darfur. Leading figures from the world's major powers, including the United States and China, will discuss how to speed up the deployment of thousands of United Nations peacekeepers to support the current African Union force in Darfur. Jana Fisher reports from Paris.
None of Darfur's warring parties or its current peacekeepers are at these talks in Paris, but lots of people who say they care about Sudan are. Bernard Kouchner, France's new Foreign Minister has made Darfur a priority. And he's been joined by top officials from the United Nations and the Arab League as well as Foreign Ministers from the United States and across Europe. China's attendance in Paris is being seen as crucial. As the biggest investor in Sudan and recipient of most of its oil, it's the one country with a bite to match its bark.
