Mubarak, Abbas meet on Gaza situation

 CAIRO, Dec. 28 -- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held talks with visiting Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on the situation of Gaza Strip on Sunday morning.
The visit of Abbas, who arrived here early on Sunday, came one day after Israeli airstrikes started on Saturday on the Gaza Strip killing at least 271 Palestinians and wounding 900 others.

The two Arab leaders also discussed the ongoing Egyptian efforts to restore calm, ease the suffering of the Palestinian people and close ranks of the Palestinians, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
Following the talks with Mubarak, Abbas had a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army air forces continued early on Sunday airstrikes on different targets belong to Islamic Hamas movement and its government in Gaza.
Hamas said in a statement that the Israeli army warplanes, F16 and Apache helicopters carried out around 25 airstrikes on different targets and buildings all over the coastal Strip.
Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency services in the Palestinian Health Ministry, told reporters that the death toll since Saturday morning hit 271 and 900 others were wounded, 120 of them in serious conditions.
