A Chinese astronaut has become the first in his country’s history to take a space walk.

In an operation broadcast live on Chinese television, fighter pilot Zhai Zhigang, 42, emerged from the capsule orbiting the Earth to wave a flag. 
在直播电视屏幕上，42岁的战斗机飞行员翟志刚挥舞着中国国旗迈出太空舱。
Mr Zhai is conducting experiments with his two fellow astronauts staying in the spacecraft as back-up. 
翟志刚和留在舱内的另外两名航天员共同执行此次航天试验。
The experiments are essential if China is to fulfil its goal of building an orbiting station in the next few years. 
此次载人计划成功后，中国将在未来几年内建立轨道空间站。
