28. due to ， because of，thanks to ，owing to，on account of 这些短语都有 “因为、由于” 之意。

due to：“由于、因为、因……造成” 它所指的原因直接造成了句中所说的后果；除了作状语和定语之外，还可在be动词之后作表语，这一点与其他几个短语不同。

Due to limitations on space, many topics of actual substance have been left out. “因篇幅所限，有很多实质性的课题都被省略了。”

because of： “由于、幸亏” 多表示正面的、好的原因或缘由。

The research institute refused to give up the project merely because of the 1ack of skilled personnel. “该研究所不肯仅仅由于缺乏熟练的技术人才就放弃那一项工程项目。”

thanks to ： “由于、多亏、幸亏” 多表示正面的、好的原因或缘由，有时也用来表达不好的理由或讥讽的口气。

Thanks to these new treatments, people with high blood pressure can live long and active lives. “多亏有了这些新的治疗方法，有高血压的人能够长寿、过上积极的生活。'

owing to： “因为、由于” 也表示原因或理由，在句中多作状语，但它作状语时修饰整个句子，可以用逗号与句子隔开。

Owing to his gift of language learning, Car1 Marx mastered fiften languags in his life time. " 由于卡尔·马克思的语言天赋. 他一生中掌握了15 种语言。'

On account of his youth, he was not allowed to take senior course. 。由于他年纪轻，不允许修四年级课程。”

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abrideed on account of ince, color or penrious condition of servitude. “合众国公民的选举权，不得因为种族、皮肤颜色或以前的奴隶身份等原因予以否认或剥夺。”
