2012年自考英语一模拟练习题(35)
2. Be Careful of the Dog
Mr. Clarke was very strong when he was young. He liked sports and kept running in the morning. He won the boys' 1, 500 meters at several sports meetings. So he joined the army after he finished middle school. Bad luck! He lost his legs in a fight and had to leave the army and return to his hometown. His parents worked in a factory and had no time to look after him and he was in trouble. It was difficult for him to fetch something he wanted. And he also felt lonely at home.
One Sunday morning, when his mother went to buy some vegetable in the market, she saw a farmer selling some dogs there. She bought one for her son. The young man was happy and liked it very much and taught it to do something for him. The clever dog learned some soon and the young man no longer felt lonely.
Mr. Clarke had many friends. They felt sorry for him and often came to see him when they were free. They laughed, sang and danced when they stayed here and tried their best to make the young man forget the sufferings. The dog was even happier and ran through the people.
One evening Mr. Clarke's friends came and found there was a piece of paper on the door. It was written, “Be careful of the dog! "
“Your dog is too small to hurt us, " said one of his friends.
